Safe Harbor Project

The DNR Safe Harbors Program creates harbors to provide safe access to and use of Lake Superior by recreational water craft and small commercial vessels. The DNR is currently working with municipalities to expand the number of available slips by 600 over the next few years.

Plans are currently underway to make changes to the Grand Marais harbor and marina. Several plans are under consideration and available for viewing at the Grand Marais City Hall. Meetings are periodically scheduled for public input. Below are links to recent newspaper articles on the subject.
